Interview with Central Daily in New York

Q.     How do they treat you?

A.      They compensate reasonable well including stock options, although I could not tell you the exact amounts.

Q.     What kind of work are you doing?

A.      I am responsible for market development and project management of international project work outside Malaysia.  Ramunia has performed many projects in Malaysia for companies such as ExxonMobil, Shell and Petronas in Malaysia.  They now need to expand their markets outside of Malaysia.  My experience in Hyundai Heavy Industries and related companies will be an important asset going forward.  My own company, Offshore and Plant Technology Services (OPT), will have synergies with Ramunia since I am planning to build Ramunia to become one of the largest offshore fabricators in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Daniel C. S. Ahn, President of Astoria World Manor and Chairman of OPT (Offshore and Plant Technology Services Company) an international company supporting the oil and gas industry.

Appointed as CEO of Ramunia International in Malaysia;

Declined Assignments from Larger Companies in India and China.

Dr. Daniel C. S. Ahn, the owner/president of Astoria World Manor has become the CEO of Ramunia International, the Malaysian offshore oil and gas plant construction company.  Dr. Ahn graduated with a PhD degree in Ocean Engineering from MIT and joined the Hyundai business group in 1978, and founded the Offshore and Engineering Division of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), served as the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Offshore Division from 1981 to 1995 and as President of HHI during 2003 to 2005.  We recently met Dr. Ahn who is now working to build Ramunia into a world class offshore company, just as previously accomplished at HHI.

Q.     How have you been appointed as CEO of Ramunia?

A.      After I retired from the positions of President of Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea and Chairman of Petro-Hyundai Engineering Company in Houston in June of this year, I was offered assignments by several international companies.  I thought I could still make a contribution to the offshore industry by transferring over 30 years of experience and know how to these companies.  I was reluctant to take the positions that were offered by some large companies in India and China since they would be in direct competition against the larger Korean companies, including Hyundai Heavy Industries.  So, my ethics did not allow this.

Q.     What kind of company is Ramunia?

A.      Malaysia is abundant in natural resources, including oil and gas.  Ramunia Fabricators was formerly the Promet yard.  Promet was a prominent fabricator in Malaysia and was built in the early 1980’s to support the Malaysian national oil company Petronas that is responsible to direct the construction and operation of the country’s oil and gas program.  Ramunia is now the second or third largest company in Malaysia involved in the oil and gas service business.

Q.     What is your ultimate goal?

A.      Although I am now involved in a highly technical field such as offshore oil and gas projects and industrial plant technology, my ultimate goal is to establish a university in the USA.  Since I had to overcome a number of obstacles to achieve my engineering PhD degree at MIT, I can now help students to develop their own skills in society.

Currently, I am the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Intercultural University in San Francisco.  In the next fall semester, I hope to open an east coast campus in Ashbury Park, New Jersey.  In my later years, I want to spend my time supporting students who need help.
